The Order for Staff Names
Your staff roster will work far better if you have the staff names in the Best order for your organisation. You need to have the;
Correct skill, in the
Correct place, on the
Correct day, at the
Correct time.
You shall need to use a technique called..‘By Inspection'’ to decide the best order of names. After you have completed a few staff rosters, have a look at them and decide ‘by inspection’ if there could have been an easier way, if you had the staff names in a different order.
Initially, have separate rosters for each grade and/or skill of staff. That way you will know how many staff of each grade/skill you have on duty at all times. This is most important. Later on you will have the skill to combine different grades and skills into one roster.
Typical examples:
Hospitals and Health Care.
Grades and Skills are:
Trained staff ie Nurses and Doctors
Senior Care staff
Care staff
Specialists ie X-ray, pharmacy
Ancillary staff
Departments such as:
Catering
House Keeping
Maintenance
Engineering
Computing
Will all require separate rosters
The Departments are also split into separate rosters, such as:
The Computing Department Support could have:
Network support

It is easier to create and maintain a staff roster if you keep it simple. You can easily see if you have the;

Correct skill, in the
Correct place, on the

Correct day, at the

Correct time !
You will know when you have achieved this !
Also, by doing the staff roster in this way, if you cannot achieved the desired outcome, you will also know why. And that is just as important.
If you cannot achieve the desired outcome and know why, you can make decisions based on facts and logical reasoning.
