The LATE function.

All staff in a roster look for ‘fairness’ and one of the ‘fairness’ criteria is equally in having undesirable shifts. Visual Rota can count the number of shifts in the desirable category and in the undesirable category. A typical example is equally in working ‘Late’ shifts.

Late shifts typically would be shifts that finished after dusk.

In any one week it is almost impossible to be fair equally to the staff, this is known as the ‘Prime Number’ problem. Hence, it is easier to be fair in periods longer than one week, ie 2, 3, 4 or 5 weeks. Sometimes this is time is extended over an entire year. Sometimes over several years, for instance, staff could work alternate Christmas Eve.

To use Visual Rota to count desirable and undesirable shifts, enter a ‘Y’ into row 80 in the Information Table.
