Miscellaneous Shifts

What are miscellaneous shifts?

In planning a staff roster, it is very important to know when staff are unavailble for work. They might be sick, on holiday, seconded, maternity leave, doctor or dentist appointments, etc. You will need to insert this data into the roster so that you do not mistakenly roster a shift when the staff are unavailable. These are entered into the heading called miscellaneous shift letters.

Go to miscellaneous shifts (row 77, column AA onwards) enter any shift letters for shifts which don’t have any hours allocated to them.

For example,

DO for day off,

S for sick

H for holiday.

OC for on-call or backup

X for unavailable

Holidays and Sickness are very complicated subject areas and are outside the scope of this Easy Guide.
